After creating chaos in Untitled Goose Game, Melbourne-based developer House House has shifted its focus to something far more gentle and collaborative. Big Walk is an open-ended cooperative hiking adventure that strips away traditional HUDs, mini-maps, and quest markers in favor of pure spatial communication, analog navigation tools, and emergent camaraderie.
Set across a lush, sun-bleached island inspired by the Australian bush, Big Walk challenges a group of friends to go on a trek, solve tactile environmental puzzles, and simply exist together in nature.
Gameplay & Collaborative Navigation
Unlike modern survival games loaded with hunger bars and crafting menus, Big Walk treats conversation as its core mechanic.
Equipped with analog compasses, surveyor tools, whistles, and physical maps that you must hold up and point at together, players explore sprawling bushlands to decipher forgotten landmarks and restore old ranger relay stations. If a teammate walks over a ridgeline or gets separated in dense fern gullies, their voice fades naturally into the breeze, forcing your group to use flare signals or acoustic echo points to regroup.
The Verdict
Score: 8.8 / 10
Big Walk is a breath of fresh air in a multiplayer landscape dominated by competitive extraction shooters and combat grinds. It captures the joyful, meandering spirit of a real-world group hike with friends, delivering clever cooperative puzzles and unforgettable shared moments.
